I recently spent a few days at my cousin's place which meant I spent a few days with his 1 1/2 year old daughter. When I saw these crochet dice she came to mind, it would be the perfect toy for her to play with.
She loves stuffies anything she can squish and she likes to throw things (they have a dog which means she sees her parents throwing his toys but the dog is not allowed in the basement where she plays so she chases the toys after she throws, so cute), and she has this amazing attention to detail. The first night I was there she took me around and showed me all her toys, showed me how they all worked, as well she showed me all her stuffies and told me their names which are the sound they made, Cat = Meow, Sheep = Bah.
I know she would love this toy and it can also be used to help her with her numbers. Every time she rolls/throws the dice she can count the number of circles to work on her counting. I know this is something she will love playing with and have a ton fun with and not even realize she is playing with numbers.
This pattern which can be found Here, the dice was quite easy to work up but due to all of the pieces and parts it does take some time to work up. It is not a quick project since there are so many pieces, there is a lot of starting, finishing off and sewing in ends so you need some patients with this project. Once all the base pieces have been completed all the dots need to be sew on and then all the squares need to be sewn together. It is not a hard project but I would not recommend it if you are looking for a quick project.
I was quite surprised by how small the finished product was, I was expecting the dice to be bigger. I am not sure if maybe my tension was off and I was crocheting too tightly but I would defiantly like to make a bigger version. I think in the future I would also use a smaller hook on the dots as they look a little cramped. But all and all I love this project and can see many uses for these dice especially since they are soft and won't cause any damage when played with in doors.
