When my Nanny (My Mom's Mom) passed away I was given her engagement and wedding rings. Right after her passing I wore the rings but I am not a big jewelry person so over time I decided to stop wearing them but I never really had anywhere to keep them that was special. I have been looking for quite some time for a nice box or something to keep them in but nothing seem to fit, either I was not feeling the design or the box was just so big to hold the rings.
When I started crocheting I was drawn to boxes and bags, I loved the idea I could turn yarn into a usable box or bag that you could personalize to your style and colours was awesome. One day well preparing to pack for one of my work trips and trying to decide what crochet projects to pack because let's be honest this is most important part of packing I decided I would try to make a box to hold Nanny's rings.
I looked at a number of patterns but none of them were exactly what I wanted or the size I wanted so I decided to wing it, I understood the basics of what I needed to do to make the box and a lid to fit it. With that being said I knew going into this it would either work or fail horribly, I was prepared for both.
Although these are Nanny's ring I decided to use my colours vs colours she would have chosen. We had very opposite taste in colours and I wanted the box to fit in with my decor as really when it comes down to it I am not trying to show off the rings I just want a special place to keep them. What is more special then something customized and handmade.
So after looking through my stash of yarn I found the colours I was going to use, black on the bottom and pink for the top. I packed my supplies, which let me tell you when you have an idea it is super hard to pack your supplies because all I wanted to do was get started. Using all my strength I was able to not pull my supplies out of my suitcase. Once in the hotel I got to work and here is what I made...........
