Although the 2 pairs of slippers I made last year did work out in the end, I have never been happy with my slipper making experience. I really wanted to find a slipper pattern I could make that did not need to tweak and that I would be happy with the end result. I really wanted a happy slipper making experience.
I decided to go on a mission to find a slipper pattern. Now I have to admit when it comes to slippers I am super picky, I either want a ballet style slipper or a boot style, anything in between does not work for me. I either want next to nothing barely notice you are wearing them or big and bulky and keep my feet warm.
After a lot of research and looking at what felt like a thousand patterns, I found one I liked which can be found Here. Now I needed to talk myself into getting to work, I was very confident the pattern would work but I was having some flashbacks to my previous slipper experiences.
I finally took a few deep breathes, dove into my yarn stash, found my yarn and I was ready to go. Originally I was going to use Black & White yarn but just as I was about to get started I had a flash and decided to use a variegated yarn I had out from a previous project which has White, Pink, Blue & Yellow in it. I personally think I made an excellent choice, I really love the way these slippers turned out using the variegated yarn.
I was quite impressed, this is the first slipper pattern I have used where the soles of the slippers worked for the size I was aiming for. I made the Larger version which fits my size 9 foot but I did use a 10 mm hook instead of a 9 mm which the pattern calls. I tend to crochet on the tighter side so for some projects I go up a hook size. In this case it worked out well for me to go up a size.
I do believe it would be fair to say that after making these slippers my fear of slippers is gone. Actually to my surprise really enjoyed making these slippers which is something I never thought I would say. After my previous experiences I was considering trying to avoid all slippers from now on which would have been sad as I never made a pair for myself. Now I just have to decide what style I would like for myself.
I have to say it again I really am so happy with how these turned out, my fear of making slippers is now gone, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
